MYTH:

"I’m not comfortable with firearms. Isn’t TASER C2 a firearm? "

TRUTH:

TASER Electronic Control Devices (ECDs) are not considered firearms by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATF) because the TASER cartridge uses compressed, inert nitrogen gas to launch the probes instead of gun powder.

MYTH:

"Isn’t it illegal to carry a TASER ECD?"

TRUTH:

It is legal to own a TASER C2 ECD in the U.S. except in HI, MA, MI, NJ, NY, RI, WI, and the District of Columbia. Other states might have limited restrictions on the use or possession of ECDs.

MYTH:

"So is the TASER C2 less powerful than ones police use?"

TRUTH:

The TASER C2 uses the same exact technology and offers the same stopping power as our police version. The only difference is the cycle time - TASER C2 relays the charge for 30 seconds compared to a 5 seconds with the police version. This is so you can keep your attacker down and get yourself to safety!

MYTH:

"So if I have to leave my C2 behind, I then have to buy a brand new replacement?"

TRUTH:

TASER C2 has a Lifetime Replacement Guarantee*. If you ever have to use your C2 to defend yourself and must leave it behind, TASER International will replace it free of charge once you’ve sent us a police report of the incident. No question - your life is worth more to us than the cost of a C2! *Applies only to incidents that occur in the United States

MYTH:

"Isn’t the TASER C2 just a stun gun?"

TRUTH:

TASER C2 is far more powerful than a traditional stun gun. First, it can incapacitate an attacker from up to 15 feet away while a stun gun requires direct contact with the threat. This gives you a zone of protection other self-defense options cannot offer. Second, unlike stun guns, TASER technology does not rely on pain compliance localized to the point of contact; rather it affects the sensory and motor functions of the nervous system and inhibits muscular control. This keeps an attacker down and immobilized for 30 seconds not just "stunned" for as long as you maintain contact. However, TASER C2 can also be used as a stun device if necessary.

MYTH:

"Is the TASER C2 too complicated to quickly use to defend myself?"

TRUTH:

It’s as simple as point and shoot. TASER C2 was designed to provide you an option that is effective yet easy to use and accessible. The safety cover is simple to operate but ensures the ECD is not accidentally fired. The laser sight lets you aim accurately and feel confident you will make contact with an assailant. The trigger is a simple push-button mechanism that allows you to fire, drop the C2, and run while keeping the attacker down.

MYTH:

"Do I have to carry the TASER C2 in a holster or custom case like the police do?"

TRUTH:

TASER C2 was designed with your lifestyle in mind. At approximately 6 inches long and weighing about 7 ounces, it is compact, lightweight, and discreet enough to be carried in a pocket, hand bag, backpack, or just about anywhere.

MYTH:

"Is pepper spray a safer option?"

TRUTH:

Pepper spray can be an effective self-defense option, but it also carries some risks. First, environmental conditions like wind could cause the spray to blow back at your rather than towards an attacker. Second, assailants must be in fairly close range for pepper spray to be effective, increasing chances that they will reach you and/or take the canister from you. Third, pepper spray effectiveness rates vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Fourth, pepper spray loses its effectiveness over time and often does not affect attackers under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. TASER is the most effective option, period. It uses no dangerous chemicals and consistently delivers an incapacitating charge to keep you safe and protected.

TASER C2 FACTS

  • TASER C2 Gives You a 15 Foot Zone of Protection TASER C2 lets you completely stop an attacker from up to 15 feet away. Pepper spray is only effective within 3 to 6 feet. Stun guns require direct contact with an attacker’s body to be effective. TASER C2 puts more distance between you and a dangerous situation, keeping you safe and in control when you need it most.
  • TASER is the most effective option, period. Pepper spray loses its effectiveness over time (2-3 years.) Canisters can fail to fire or lose their stopping power. Unlike sprays that rely on pain to deter or distract an attacker, the TASER C2 causes true incapacitation – even against people under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Only TASER C2 consistently delivers the same stopping power trusted by 15,000 police agencies all over the world.
  • The Disadvantages of Pain Compliance Techniques Sprays and other self-defense options rely on pain compliance. Studies show that individuals under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol have higher pain tolerances and are often able to fight through the painful effects of sprays. TASER technology relies on Neuro Muscular Incapacitation not pain compliance. It jams sensory and motor functions, which inhibits muscular control and renders even the biggest, most aggressive attacker immobile.
  • TASER Laser Sighting Alone Can De-escalate Dangerous Situations. Studies show that 80% of potentially violent situations are de-escalated without physical force when aggressive persons are confronted with the laser sight from a TASER ECD. Source: Auckland (NZ) and Wellington (NZ) Police Field Studies
  • TASER vs. Pepper Spray Effectiveness. Pepper spray fails to incapacitate aggressive subject in 10-15% of incidents due to low concentrations of the active ingredients, poor delivery, and variable subject response. Source: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), February 2009
  • Good Aim Is Not Required. Unlike other self-defense options, TASER C2 allows you to target any area of the body, giving you a broader range of options to protect yourself in a stressful, dangerous situation.
